Pentrepoeth V Malpas Church

Won the game 5 tries to 0, strong opening performance, excellent support play, couple of gaps in defence which didn’t matter because we kept attacking.  Daniel provided excellent support following a break by Aaron who offloaded beautifully to set Dan up for a well worked try.  Individual effort from Aaron who scored twice from two breaks. Niall showed excellent forward power as he crashed over twice.

 Pentrepoeth V Milton

Due to a shaky start from Pentrepoeth, Milton gained forward momentum early on scoring two tries.  In the second half, a high tackle caused Edward to have to leave the field. With only a minute of play remaining, heads were down until Lewis who captained superbly by providing a surge of power crashing through the defence for a breathtaking try, this lifted the team and a second try came almost instantly after through Aaron to level the score.

Final score 2-2.

 Pentrepoeth V Rougement

We expected a difficult game as Rougement won the Newport Schools rugby at Rodney parade, you wouldn’t think so after this game as a superb team effort by all of the boys stopped Rougement from moving forward at all.  The passing was slick, sharp running angles and excellent defense ensured that Aaron was able to score two winning tries, but there could have been more.  Individual praise deserved to Edward who not only played on after a nasty knock, he single handedly, closed down the excellent Rougemont scrum half, breaking their link between forwards and backs.

Semi final – Pentrepoeth V Glasllwch

Again we anticipated a difficult match but again, a superb team effort ensure that Glasllwch were unable to perform. Again, fabulous work through the forwards ensured two opening tries from Niall. Strong running from Connor and Daniel Rees ensured that Daniel Rees crossed the try line, followed by an acrobatic dive over in the corner by Ed.

Final – Pentrepoeth V Marshfield.

Marshfield had looked very strong in their earlier matches but not as strong as Pentrepoeth. Aaron used his blistering pace to score early on. Marshfield started to apply pressure, Niall was called back onto the field and scored almost instantly.  Tiredness set in as a gap appeared just big enough for Marshfield to claim a try back but this only lifted the team and a forward surge allowed Lewis to score in the last second to win the game 3 – 1 as champions.

A special mention to Lewis who captained superbly throughout and also received the “Player of the Tournament,” award. Congratulations to Lewis and all of the team.

Mr Wilmore, you would have been proud!!
