The school was inspected during April 2007.
Some of the comments contained within the report include:
Lliswerry High School is a good school that has made significant improvement since the last inspection. Its particular strengths are the:
- progress that most pupils and students make in most subjects as they move through the school;
- very positive relationships between staff and pupils;
- effective partnerships with numerous outside agencies that provide very good support for the work of the school;
- the extent to which the school works as part of the whole community;
- the high quality pastoral links with partner primary schools are a notable strength of the school and an outstanding feature of care, support and guidance;
- the school is a caring and inclusive community, which rovides effective support and guidance for its pupils;
- there is very good provision for more able and talented pupils;
- pupils with AEN make good progress. Overall provision is good and AEN issues have a high profile within the school;
- a wide range of extra-curricular activities enriches the formal curriculum and enhances pupils' learning in a variety of ways;
- the school's curriculum meets the needs and aspirations of most pupils and gives them the opportunity to achieve accreditation; and
- links with Coleg Gwent are particularly strong. These links add breadth and flexibility to the curriculum.
