Lliswerry is a mixed comprehensive school maintained by the Newport Local Education Authority (LEA) and catering for the 11 to 18 age range.  The annual intake is around 190 pupils.  A teaching staff of approximately 60 teachers is assisted by secretarial and technical staff and learning support assistants.

The school is situated in south-east Newport, approximately two miles from the M4 motorway and on the boundary between Lliswerry district and the more rural areas of Nash and Goldcliff.  Built in 1970s, it occupies a large and open campus and has the distinct advantage of being a single building under one roof.  Lliswerry is the designated secondary school in Newport for the physically handicapped and as such has full wheelchair access and medical facilities for the disabled.

We are constantly striving to make the school a pleasant place in which to work and are continuing to undertake an extensive programme of redecoration and refurbishment.  Recent improvements include an extensively resources Library, a new Information and Communications Technology Resource Centre and refurbished Science laboratories.  The school hall seats 450 pupils and is used for the performing arts and school assemblies.

The Sixth Form has exclusive use of a Common Room which, together with separate laboratories and seminar rooms, provides it with excellent accommodation.

Sporting facilities are excellent.  They include a large Sports Hall and a floodlit all-weather pitch, together with several rugby and soccer pitches and tennis and netball courts.
