FOGGY Ramblers
Shirenewton and Mynydd Bach
Sunday 21st February 2010
6 miles
Meet at 10.30 a.m. at the large layby next to Rhewl Cottage.
This is on a minor road, 1.4 miles from the A48. The road is to be found opposite the New Inn at Pwyllmeyric, turning left off the A48 if travelling from Newport direction, turning right if coming from Chepstow. Rhewl Cottage stands alone next to a fir tree just after Rhewl Farm. It has white painted sides and a natural stone front.
Alternatively, and especially if you are approaching from the north, head into Shirenewton and take the minor road, off the road that runs through the village, at the side of the Tredegar Arms, marked ‘Chepstow 5 miles’. At the junction just after The Tan House pub, go ahead and the layby is just under 1.25 miles.
Parking: there is room for 4 or 5 cars at this layby and 2 more at a layby a few hundred yards further on.
Be Aware. The ground was frozen when I did the walk but if the weather should become mild, it may be very muddy and hard going under foot in some places. However, there are no strenuous climbs. If it remains very cold, then there will be a danger of ice on hard surfaces. Also, although it is a designated footpath, the first part of the walk goes through woodland which seems little used, with lots of briars criss-crossing the path and fallen trees in places – but therefore a good reason to walk it.
As always, you walk at your own risk.
If the weather is particularly bad the walk will take place the following Sunday. Please telephone me by 9 a.m. if you are in doubt about it going ahead.
All walks
· All walks are at your own risk.
· There is a voluntary contribution of £2.50 per walker which goes to the ‘Friends of Greater Gwent Youth Music’ funds.

· Bring waterproofs.
· All walks are rural and you will encounter rough and, sometimes, wet and muddy ground.
